I have now been a Mummy to Thomas for 9 weeks and I have loved nearly every single second of it. Once we sorted the feeding situation out, Thomas is now contended the majority of the time. However, there are occasions when he gets overtired and cannot be consoled at all. He likes looking around and sometimes looks round for so long that he forgets to go to sleep. Thomas then just crys until he eventually goes to sleep. I do not like this as nothing I do will stop him crying.
Apart from that, motherhood is everything I expected it to be and more. I cannot remember what life was like before we had him. I occasionally have vague recollections but they feel dream like. Our family and friends have been amazing and I do not know what we would of done without them.
I have only left Thomas with Stuart for 5 times so far and he has taken him out himself a couple of times too. My Mom has had him once for for 4-5 hours over the festive period but that has been the only time he has been looked after by someone else outside of our house. I am hoping to increase this a bit more in the New Year.
This festive week has been a bit hard on us as Thomas has had a cold and bit of a fever. Most of the time he is ok but occasionally he just will not settle at all and we have had to give him Calpol, take him for a walk or just let him cry until he settles. Last night he had his best night’s sleep so far (Calpol fuelled), sleeping from 9pm-4.45am then going back down at 5.50am and sleeping until 9.15am. I am hoping this is a sign of things to come.
We really enjoyed Thomas’ first Christmas and cannot believe how many presents he got. Thank you again our wonderful family and friends. I love being a Mummy and am looking forward to whatever 2012 brings. Stuart and I want to get married, get Thomas christened and move house so it is going to be a busy one. I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog in 2011 and will join us for our adventures next year and beyond. Thank you for all your support and help this year. It is much appreciated.
Happy New Year! 🙂

Thomas has recently received his first book from DIY Storytime. Using the website you can create a personalised book for your child including such details as their name, eye and hair colour, who you are and another special person. It is very quick and easy to do and within 10 minutes you can have the book ordered. DIY Storytime make traditional hardback and paperback books but they will also send you a version of the book suitable for use on the Ipad.
The images included on this post are images extracted from the PDF copy of the book I received within 10 minutes of ordering the book. When the book arrived, a couple of days later, I was very impressed with the quality of the printing. Everything is very clear and the illustrations are amazing. I am sure this will be a book that Thomas will treasure for years to come. I just hope he likes the dedication in the book from his Mommy and Daddy!
Many thanks to Jayne for allowing me to create Thomas’s first book to review 🙂
When I was pregnant, I was actually quite proud of my body and my bump and I wanted some way to remember it by. So when I saw @jaymountford/ @cosmicgirlie on Twitter did maternity/newborn photo shoots, I jumped at the chance.
Jay’s website show the quality of her work and wide variety of the pictures she can take. I can only show a small selection on the blog from both shoots. I was 36 weeks pregnant when we did the maternity shoot. We had never had one done before so we will both a bit nervous and did not know what to expect. She instantly put us at ease and we laughed our entire way through the shoot. I know see my garden in a different light too as Jay used light and angles of the shots to show it in a completely different light.
For the newborn shoot, Jay came when Thomas was 10 days old. She took her time and made sure that we were happy with every stage before proceeding. She really understood our wishes as new parents and even taught us a couple of baby calming techniques too. We had a great time on this shoot too, despite us feeling jaded due to lack of sleep. Thomas looks amazing in the photos and it is such a great way to remember the start of his life, as he has now changed so much already.
Jay has written about her experience of the maternity shoot here. I cannot wait to see what she thought about the newborn shoot too. Thank you Jay for a wonderful time and an amazing experience. 🙂

Sudocrem, the UK’s leading nappy rash cream, is delighted to announce a donation of up to £25,000 in total to the NSPCC. Sudocrem is currently supporting ‘All babies count’, an online campaign which will support the NSPCC’s work to prevent the abuse and neglect of babies.
Here’s how you can support All babies count:
- Sudocrem will donate 50p for each new ‘like’ on Sudocrem’s Facebook page (Visit www.facebook.com/sudocrem)
- For every tweet using the #allbabiescount hashtag Sudocrem will donate 25p
This is a campaign that I feel very strongly about, especially with a nearly 7 week old in the house. I know it can be hard being parent. There have been some very tough moments so far and Thomas is not even 2 months old yet. I just do not understand how parents can harm their children. However the NSPCC estimates over 198,000 babies in the UK (one in four) are at high risk because they are born into homes with domestic violence, mental health problems, or drink and drug dependency. These families and especially the children in them need our help. I have taken some money that I was going to use to buy Thomas a Christmas present and have donated to the campaign instead. It would be great if we all did the same but if you cannot, every little bit helps so please tweet and like on Facebook as much as you can. Thank you 🙂
Many thanks to Blog Match for informing me about the campaign
